The Children We Serve
"Being adopted has enriched my life in this way: I don't have a family tree, but I have a family forest. I have so many people who love me and so many people to love. I don't see how it could do anything but make my life more complete."
-- Keva, a child adopted through Amara.
We work to find lifelong families for children living in the Pacific Northwest. Through no fault of their own, these children cannot be reunited with their birth families.
The children in foster care who need permanent families include children of all ages (from newborn to teenager) and ethnicities. They are in foster care for their safety and protection and waiting for a family to call their own.
Because of their experiences, these children may need extra time and support to heal, to learn to trust and to catch up with their peers. But time and time again, we see our adoptive families provide the nurturing and guidance these children need to succeed. Families report the amazing leaps their children make once they know and understand they are home.
Amara also finds homes for infants relinquished by their birthparents directly into our care. These birthparents are facing challenges that they believe will keep them from providing their children with the life they deserve.
