Transracial & Transcultural Adoption Training – Part 1 (Amara, from Mar 11, 2010 06:00 PM to Mar 11, 2010 09:00 PM)
This three-hour training class encourages adoptive parents to explore their cultural understanding and competence around trans-racial child adoption. They will acquire tools to assess their readiness for trans-racial adoption and they will grow their understanding of what is needed to prepare themselves, their families and their children for the challenges ahead.
Amara Family Support Group (Amara, from Mar 18, 2010 06:30 PM to Mar 18, 2010 08:30 PM)
We welcome all members of Amara families to join our Support Group gatherings, held the third Thursday of every month. An Amara Adoption and Foster Care Specialist or a guest speaker will discuss a topic related to adoption, followed by a Q&A. Parents then join small discussion groups to exchange experiences on a more personal level. Amara provides childcare and a light meal. Please RVSP every month when you plan to attend.
Focusing on the Needs of the Child: Openness in Foster Care and Adoption (Amara, from Mar 22, 2010 05:00 PM to Mar 22, 2010 08:00 PM)
This three-hour training class helps adoptive parents understand adoption as a blended family experience. It dispels negative birth parent stereotypes and develops a collaborative approach to working with birth families to encourage the healthy development of the child.

PRIDE (Parents' Resource for Information Development Education) (Amara, from Apr 23, 2010 09:00 AM to Apr 25, 2010 06:00 PM)
PRIDE is a 27-hour training program and is a required part of the licensing process for foster and adoptive parents. The program is a valuable resource for families to learn about children in foster care and the roles foster and adoptive families have, as well as creating a supportive community for these families.
LGBT Families and Adoption (Amara, from May 01, 2010 08:30 AM to May 01, 2010 12:30 PM)
This 4-hour workshop offers an opportunity to explore ways in which LGBT families are wonderful and different from other families. Participants will focus on ways to prepare for the joys and challenges that may arise throughout the adoption process and continue into parenthood.
Transracial & Transcultural Adoption Training – Part 2 (Amara, from May 06, 2010 06:00 PM to May 06, 2010 09:00 PM)
This training will expand on the original and required Transracial & Transcultural Adoption Training and will include topics such as Development of Racial Identity, Talking to Kids about Race & Culture, Seeking Diversity, and Challenging Racism. The training begins with a discussion of the “Below the Surface” self assessment participants received in session 1, and requires that participants both complete the assessment and bring it with you to the part 2 training.
