Since 1921, Amara has worked to ensure that children in our community find safety, stability and nurturing throughout their childhood. Formerly known as Medina Children's Services, we have worked for nearly 90 years to find loving families for children who need them. Based in Seattle, Washington, we provide adoption, foster care and pregnancy counseling services.

In partnership with birth, foster and adoptive parents, we work to find, prepare, grow and support permanent families for vulnerable children. We are proud to offer our services to everyone, regardless of marital status, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, home ownership, income or education.

Perspective from an Amara parent who adopted a 5-year-old boy in July:

“I think we idealize birth relationships and overestimate the risk of adoption. Kids from foster care need parents who are ‘all in’ from day one — who aren't waiting until it feels less risky. Love is always risky…most things that are of any value are.”
